When the first Brasil Jazz Festa was held in San Diego a decade ago, it was held as a tribute concert saluting the music of leading Brazilian guitarist Chico Pinheiro. When the 10th annual edition of the festival is held Sunday at the all-ages Dizzy’s, Pinheiro himself will headline. Critically acclaimed for his command of various jazz and Brazilian music traditions, he shines on both acoustic and electric guitars. This holds true whether he is leading his own bands, performing solo, or collaborating with such fellow six-string virtuosos as Julian Lage and Anthony Wilson. Pinheiro performed here with both of them in 2013, when the Wilson-led Seasons Guitar Quartet played an Athenaeum Jazz at TSRI Auditorium concert. Pinheiro will also be in good company when he returns to San Diego Sunday. The lineup for the 10th annual Brasil Jazz Festa includes 27-year-old Fresno mandolin wiz Eva Scow and two rising San Diego jazz standouts — pianist Danny Green and his trio and and vocalist Allison Adams Tucker, who is a nimble singer in at least six languages, including Portuguese.
